Good morning to all of you superstar sales professionals and businesspeople! Welcome to another day in the life of your business … a day when you can combine desire with action and achieve amazing results—but ONLY if you get in the game.

Speaking of that … what if today just isn’t one of those days when you feel like getting in the game? Where will you find that elusive motivation to get you off the bench, out of the dugout, and onto the field? Well, the truth is that this way of thinking assumes that a certain order has to be maintained. It assumes that you can only take action if you first feel the motivation to do so.

What if it were possible to just take action FIRST and then allow the motivation to come as a result of seeing the outcome of what you’ve done? In other words, you start to get ~more~ motivated because you want to get more of what you just got?

I believe that too often we’re guilty of being ‘motivation-dependent’. There are times when you just have to do the right thing … you simply have to take action because you know that’s what your goals require. Let’s be honest, our feelings and our emotions are fickle and often even selfish and if they don’t get what they want then they just don’t come out to play. Phooey on that! You know what you have to do so let’s just do it, whether the excitement, or thrill, or desire is there or not.

So often what you’ll find is that as you step out into activity, start doing the things that are necessary to build your business, you’ll get those first few positive results. Then you’ll feel the beginning of a smile on your face as you realize yet again that this stuff really does work. The smile will lead to a chuckle and you might even catch yourself shaking your head. And that’s when you’ll feel the fire begin to kindle as you realize you want more of what you just got. Action will often beget motivation … it does NOT always have to have it first.

So—here’s to you getting out there today and going after it. If you’re fired up and ready to go, bully for you! If you’re just not quite feeling it … just make the first move and stick with it. If you’re like so many great champions who have gone before you, it won’t be long before motivation decides it wants in on it and finally comes walking in, acting like it was there with you all along. Either way it’s time to get out there and make today count.
