Good morning, amazing salespeople and die-hard businesspeople! Welcome to another chapter of your business and your life. And since this IS your business and life … are they where you want to be?

And the three-fold cord is not easily broken. How true that is … but how does it apply to our business? I want to suggest that there are three key elements that should be used when designing an aggressive move forward and upward in your production. One: your ideal vision and goals … Two: the exact plan you intend to follow to get you there … and three: the precise schedule that you are committed to following that will allow for the plan to be implemented. When these three elements are bound together and working in harmony there is nothing that can stop you from achieving and exceeding the goals you’ve set.

Get complete clarity on where you would like to be in the next twelve months—describe for yourself, in writing and in detail, the level of income you’d like to be earning, the number of transactions you’d like to have close each month, the flow of your systems, and the use of your time. When the vision you have is crystal clear and meaningful you are going to be a lot more excited about doing the work that the other two components require.

No one plans to fail, they simply fail to plan. We’ve all heard over and over about the virtues of creating a business plan, but how many agents REALLY make a solid one, OR actually look at it on a regular basis once they’ve designed it? “A plan in your head isn’t worth the paper it’s written on”—thank you to the late Yogi Berra for that gem! Get all the specifics of what is going to need to happen in your business to get you to that target that you’ve decided you need to hit, and then review it relentlessly!

Finally, the schedule. Ah yes—another one of those items that we actually get sick and tired of being told we have to follow. Well, I won’t promise that I’m not going to push you in that direction as well, but I ~will~ say that you don’t have to be ‘perfect’ in the use of your time. The best agents that I know or coach will tell you that they’re actually on track with their schedules about 80-90% of the time, if they’re being honest. The schedule is simply the ‘when’ that goes with the ‘how’ … the ‘how’ being the plan that you are committed to using to achieve the ‘what’, which is, of course, your goal.

So there you have it: what, how, and when—the 3-fold cord of success. Think of it as a life line … that dependable rope that you will use to scale the highest of peaks AND to cling to for support as you descend down into the dark valleys that will make up your journey over the next 12-15 months. Let’s get after it … let’s go make today count!
