Good morning to all of you amazing lead generators and businesspeople! Welcome to another Monday …. another week where you have the chance to charge forward toward your goals for 2015. How badly do you want to reach them? Are you on track so far this year or does April HAVE TO BE a catch-up month?

Based on what I do, there is one significant thing that I see over and over again working against agents as they are in pursuit of those goals. Disappointment.

I firmly believe that the ability to deal with failed expectations is probably the most valuable ability that we can develop—not only for our business, but for life in general.

Now think about what I just said. IF you can learn how to properly and positively deal with things that don’t go the way you wanted, hoped, or prayed that they would, you literally have an ENORMOUS advantage over the people who are thrown into the depths of despair when ‘life happens’.

How does disappointment affect YOU? What does ‘failure’ do to your commitment to stay focused, hopeful, proactive, and engaged in the process? When things don’t come together, when you lose a listing you thought you had, when a transaction falls out of escrow, or when another agent fails to do what they said they’d do does it drive you to retreat in anger and discouragement, OR does it fuel your determination to DO SOMETHING productive to compensate?

We’ve all heard the phrase, ‘it’s not what happens TO you, but you react that matters’. What have your reactions to disappointment cost you so far in 2015? How many days have you NOT done your lead generation because you were in a funk? How many hours have you spent fuming versus following up? Complaining versus calling? How often has a deal falling out of contract caused you to lose 1, 2, 3 MORE deals because it took you so long to get past the frustration?

I want to encourage you to embrace the power of simply moving forward in spite of ____ (you fill in the blank). We are all going to lose out, miss out, and strike out. Even the best of the best fail, fall, and flop sometimes. So what? I urge you: do not be one of the ones who retreat when what you wanted doesn’t happen … advance! Take action anyway! Accept that in real estate your expectations will not always be met, but decide right now that you will remain fixed to the path of the overcomer.

Hey, how about this? In those three immortal words, make today count!
